If you are in search of a perfect stylish and compact laptop, most probably your eyes will go towards the Apple Macbook. But that smart piece of technology comes at a price of $1000 dollars which most probably will empty your pocket and you will be sacrificing $1000 for on an Intel M3 processor and 8gb of memory. Microsoft offers the Surface Pro and Google offers their Chromebook at a lesser price, but it’s still costly. So, folks, we are revealing to you another great laptop at a price bracket of $600, the XIAOMI AIR 12. The complete specs of AIR 12 is given below.
Design And Display
The Xiaomi AIR 12 comes in a MacBook like design. In fact, the laptop is so slim that its comparable to a Macbook. The thickness is only 1.25 cm. The built quality is not that great but its okay. Coming to the display, the XIAOMI AIR 12 Laptop features a FullHD screen of 12.5 inches with aspect ratio of 16:9. The resolution is 1920×1080. The display is IPS type. The display quality is overall good and the colors are vibrant.
The XIAOMI AIR 12 comes equipped with the Intel M3 7Y30 dual-core processor with clock speed up to 2.6GHz. The system has a cache of 4 MB. The laptop has a memory of 4 GB with single RAM slot. The device comes with a blazing fast 256 GB SSD. Moving on, the graphics quality of the AIR 12 laptop is pretty cool. The device is shipped with an Intel HD Graphics 615 GPU with a frequency between 300 MHz – 900 MHz. The XIAOMI AIR 12 runs on the Windows 10 OS. The laptop can handle most of the daily jobs but will lag in keeping up with modern video editing applications and Engineering software.
The battery capacity of the XIAOMI AIR 12 is also quite impressive. The notebook features a 7.4 V/5000 mAh battery. It will easily give you a whole day’s power. But the output may vary deeding on the usage. Its gives 6 hours of video play time on average. The laptop comes with and AC Adapter of 110-240V, 5V/2A. It can charge up your laptop within 2 hours.
Considering the Air 12 is slightly thinner than a MacBook, Xiaomi’s designers deserve credit for squeezing in a full-sized USB 3.0 Type-A port and HDMI port. Combined with the USB Type-C port (which also serves as the power socket), and 3.5mm audio jack, the Air 12 makes the MacBook’s offering of a lone USB Type-C port and audio jack look a little inadequate. The WIFI reception of the device is good. It comes with the version Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The AIR 12 is also equipped with Bluetooth 4.1. It also comes with a 1-megapixel front camera.
- Solid and compact.
- Cheap, at least if you’re buying the Skylake version.
- Decent battery life.
- Quality of display, speakers, and backlit keyboard.
- Upgradable storage and PCIe slot.
- Plays nice with Linux.
- Full-size USB and HDMI ports.
- No touchscreen.
- Only available as an import from China.
- US-International keyboard.
- No upgrade option for RAM or the SSD, which at 4GB and 128GB are extremely limiting.
- Getting a version with a modern Kaby Lake CPU nearly doubles the price.
- Design more of a copy than a homage.
- Effort (but no money) required to get an English version of Windows installed.
The XIAOMI AIR 12 is overall a good laptop in that price range. If your budget is low you can go for it. I will not recommend this device to heavy users. Also, the build quality is not that great. It gives Apple like specs at a low price and that’s the catch.
