Did you ever find yourself in need of using multiple Skype accounts simultaneously? Do you want to use separate Skype accounts for work and for personal use at the same time? Well, Skype doesn’t provide an obvious way to use multiple accounts simultaneously. But still you can use multiple accounts via web, windows, Mac or Linux Skype applications. Below we present some of the ways to use it.
How To Run Multiple Skype Accounts At the Same Time?
- Web
If you have Skype running on your PC, then you can use the web version of Skype to log into Skype with a secondary account. Just go to the link web.skype.com and login there with a different account.
You can also open your browser’s private-browsing mode and sign into Skype from it, then you’ll be having one account running on normal browsing mode and another in private browsing mode or you can even use different web browsers to sign in with different accounts on Skype for the web.

Matthew Scharley has given a better, cleaner way that makes each Skype program run under your same user account. With this trick you can run multiple copies of Skype on your same user account by pointing each of them to a different data folder. Just launch the terminal and run this command:
open -na /Applications/Skype.app –args -DataPath
/Users/$(whoami)/Library/Application\ Support/Skype2
To sign into more copies of Skype just replace”Skype2” with “Skype3” and “Skype3” with “Skype4” and so on. With this you can run as many Skype programs as you want simultaneously.
- Windows
For windows, press window and R key simultaneously on keyboard, there a run dialog will appear, if you’re using windows 32-Bit, then enter the following command:
“C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe” /secondary
If you’re using windows 64-Bit then use this command:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe” /secondary
Now you can go on repeating this process to open multiple copies of Skype and signing into each with a different account.
But if you’ve installed your Skype in a different folder other than default one then you need to change the above command so that it should point to the Skype.exe file on your PC.
You can even create shortcut to make it easier. On Windows Explorer window navigate to “C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\”for 32-bit window and “C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\” for a 64-bit version. Right click the Skype.exe file and select send to>Desktop (create shortcut). Now with the shortcut created on desktop right click on it and select properties. In the target box, add /secondary to the end, it should look like
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe” /secondary for 64-bit version.
Now this shortcut will help you open additional instances of Skype with a double click.
